The big story

Tamebay reports that the Trading Allowance will rise from £1,000 to £3,000 from 6 April 2027. That means up to £3,000 of trading income a year could be tax-free.

For a side-hustle reseller, that may mean selling more before tax on profits comes into it. The article says the new marketplace VAT rules, from October 2027, exclude personal and second-hand sales. They target UK businesses selling over £90,000.

Nothing changes yet, but it is worth checking your yearly sales against the new limit.

The week in resale

  • Value Added Resource reports eBay is testing Depop listings in its own search results. If you sell on both, it's worth checking your Depop listings are in good shape.

  • Tamebay reports eBay Live is streaming from London Card Show until 1 November, with UK sellers showing Pokémon and football collectables. If you sell cards, it's worth a look to see what live buyers are bidding on.

  • Value Added Resource reports Etsy's new terms, from 16 December, let it use seller content to train its AI, subject to opt-outs. If you sell on Etsy, your listing photos and text may be used, and closing your shop may not undo that.

Worth knowing

Vinted's help centre says your first photo should show the whole item, with no collages. It also recommends natural daylight, with no flash or filters.

eBay UK's Seller Centre says the first photo appears in search results. It wants the item centred and fully visible on a plain white or neutral background.

Vinted warns that a flaw you don't show might lead a buyer to cancel and return the item. Worth checking your cover photo and adding close-ups of flaws, labels and stitching.
